  • Mayor visit to our community council is Aug 5
  • Neighborhood cleanup schedule announced today. 1300S-2100S:June 28, 700S-1300S:July 19
Taylor Springs update - Bill Nighswonger/Housing Authority of Salt Lake City
  • Quick update. Very close to completing the first building. Second building has basement done.
  • To be completed in November.
  • Attempt for house in front to be labeled historic landmark. Not historic but will be preserved.
  • Front house needs to be brought up to seismic code. Expensive.
  • Front house only allows for 10-12 occupancy.
  • Lead based paint to be removed from the front house.
  • House is 30x30. Very small. Not a lot of capacity. Limited use. Sitting room. Most amenities are built into the larger buildings.
  • Venture will not be a point of access only an emergency access road that will be gated.
Center for New Media - Gordon Stoors/Salt Lake Community College
  • Six years in the making
  • Funded last year
  • SLC School district is a partner
  • 350,000 sq. ft currently. increases footprint by 10,000 sq ft. Mostly remodeling existing under utilized space.
  • Brings together many of the different disciplines that function on other campuses.
  • Production and studio spaces, TV station, radio station, sound stage, TV studio
  • School district building construction begins soon but the main construction starts Oct/Nov. Opens in May 2012
City Update - Shawn McDonough/Community Liason
  • Mayor is seeking more input on the public safety building Wed Mar 10 5-8:30pm in SLC library 4th floor meeting room
  • Bicycle summit "Building Strong Voices for Bicycling" April 16,17 SLC Main Library. Registration is free. Go to: http://www.utahbikesummit.com/
  • Mayor 1-on-1 will be held on March 17th from 4pm to 6pm in the City & County Building (451 So State Street). Sign up early on March 10. Call 801.535.7704. Next one will be Saturday April 3rd from 9am to 11am. Reserve your time early on March 24.

  • Mayor released plans to visit each community council. He will visit ours on August 5th. Anyone can come and discuss concerns.
  • Next month headliner is the SLC Housing Authority. They will provide an update on the development going in at 1812 So West Temple.
US Census Bureau - Sam Smith
  • Census coming up in a couple of months
  • Every 10 years as required by US onstitution
  • Looking for the forth seat in congress
  • Important to get accurate picture of Utah. Influences federal policy and funding.
  • Safe, easy and important
  • Short form.
  • Completely confidential. Nothing personal identifiable.
  • Looking to hire 1000 people as census takers. Temp 4-8 weeks. $14/hour. Paid training and mileage reimbursement. Going door to door trying to contact people who did not return the census sheet. Bilingual a plus.
  • Would like the census takers to work in the neighborhoods where they live.
  • Some office daytime work but mostly evenings and weekends
  • Need to take a census skills test held at the SL County Complex. 801.736.5060 to schedule.

  • Heads up. Community portable garden. Starting up this spring. Live within RDA project area. North of 900 south. Can be added to waiting list if you do not live within the boundary. Call Wasatch Community Gardens

  • This is a forgotten neighborhood. Tries to parallel it to the Avenues 30+ years ago.

  • Infill ordinance. Historic designation. Trying to preserve neighborhood homes.

Divorce Education for Children Class

Dear Child Advocate:
A Divorce Education for Children class is being offered at Salt
Lake’s Scott M. Matheson Courthouse for children 9- to 12-years old
(3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades) whose parents are divorced or
divorcing. The class helps children to identify feelings common in
divorce situations, while teaching them communication skills to
express their feelings.

Upcoming class dates are Saturday, February 27, Saturday, March 13
and Monday, March 29, 2010. Classes are held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
on Saturdays and 6 to 8 p.m. on Mondays.

Please forward this information to anyone you feel may be
interested. Both parents and children who have participated in the
program have expressed how valuable the class has been.

SLCC on Tuesday broke ground for the Center for New Media. It is in partnership with state and schools. $30 million in remodel 122,670 square feet 42 classrooms. Opens Fall 2011.

Salt Lake City PD chief scheduled dates for a open question forum.

Welcome to the new state senator: Ben McAdams. 45 day session to begin soon. Will provide updates during session. McCoy resigned last month to focus on career as an attorney. Pays better. Democratic delegates select candidate to replace. To be sworn in on Tuesday. Represented SLC in legislature. Major issue is budget covering $850 million shortfall. Feb 15 with updated numbers.

Proposed Activities
*Meet with owners of the deceased pets and making arrangements for their cremation
*Provide memorial merchandise for these owners should they require

Proposing a pet crematorium. Working its way through planning. Permitted use as pet cemetery.
Emissions similar to a residential fireplace. Amendment to current zoning code to allow a funeral home to cremate remains.

Non-profit. Develops high density residential housing. Developing a project on 800 south and 400 west. Major development. Jackie Scibe. Artspace Pierpont 300 400 west. Rubber company 200 south 3-4 west bunch of places. Mixed use. Affordable housing and office space. Art studios.
Artspace Commons. Building 102 residential units. 50k sq ft commercial space. commercial first floor. Building 4 stories and a second 3 stories that is commercial. very green building. gold lead building. solar thermal hot water solar pv window awnings. Secure storage for bikes. showers for people who commute via bike. Construction terminates june 2010. Across from city fleet parking. Kiddie corner from the pickle company. Mission is to build live in workspace for artist and non-profits and revitalizing neighborhoods. http://www.artspaceutah.org. Waiting list now. Leasing in March. 1-2 bedrooms starting at $750. 1300 South Viaduct Rehabilitation
In beginning stages of evaluation. Environmental stage. Preliminary design work. Major rehab not new construction. Full deck replacement. Upgraded sidewalks on north and south side. Possible bike lanes. Structural upgrade. New signal at 700 west. no lane re-configuration. Spring environmental done and then design. Construction tentatively Spring 2012. Duration March-November. After North Temple construction. Public open house next month 2nd or 3rd week. TBA.
